You asked. We answered. Smile! We have a new dental provider!
When do our dental benefits take effect? The new Delta Dental PPO is a 12-month plan — you can enroll between Aug 1 and Sept 30 or Dec 1 and Jan 30. Once you make your $128.56 premium payment, you have insurance for 12 month regardless of your employment/student status at MSU. This insurance ONLY covers visits to Delta Dental PPO dentists.
Who is eligible to enroll? The GEU has bargained for this dental plan as part of our guaranteed healthcare agreement with the University. This means all TAs at MSU are eligible to enroll. Moreover, MSU extends the GEU-bargained healthcare plan to other graduate students on assistantships (e.g., RAs), so anyone on the graduate employee plan are eligible for this dental option. Dependents are eligible to enroll at their own expense. If you are on Fellowship – you will need to check with your department about whether you qualify. Some MSU Fellowships come with health and dental benefits and some don’t.
How do I enroll? Go to www.mysmilecoverage.com/MSUGA.

How much does the plan cost? If you are a TA covered under the GEU/MSU contract, your cost is $128.54 a year. Delta Dental will bill MSU for the other half.
When do I have to pay my portion? Payment needs to be made at the time of enrollment. You can pay Delta Dental by e-check or credit card.
Is there a payment plan? What about payroll deduction? No.
Where can I get more information? If you have an appointment for Fall 2011, dental information will be mailed to the address you have on file with the Registrar. If for some reason you do not receive this mailing, you can pick up enrollment forms in the Benefits office at MSU (located in the Nisbet Building) or at the Union office.
Who do I contact if I have a question about my claim? Call Delta Dental at 800-524-0149.
How can I find a Delta Dental PPO dentist in my area? Go to the dentist search page of Delta’s website. Make sure you select Delta PPO (the middle choice) and plug in your zip code. A list of participating dentists as well as their contact information will appear in a list.
