As you transition your classes to online, here are some things that you can keep in mind:
- Track your hours – your hours spent on your TAship may spike as your course transitions to a virtual set-up, but throughout the rest of the semester your hours should still average out to 20 per week. Please be sure to keep track of your hours, and if you are averaging more than 20 per week, contact the GEU!
- This goes extra for international TAs! Your visa requires you to not work more than 20 hours per week. If you feel pressured to work more than this, please contact the GEU and we will help reduce your workload!
- You aren’t responsible for the transition – the professor is responsible for ensuring the transition from in-person to online is successful in your course and should not be putting the majority of the work of conducting this transition on you. If the professor places the burden of transitioning the course on you, please contact the GEU right away and we will put a stop to it. You can request a meeting with the professor to discuss this overwork period and how it will be offset!
