Smoking Cessation Help Available!

There will be an orientation session for the next cycle of the program on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in room 247 of the Olin Health Center. Advanced registration is required. Participants may attend the orientation without being obligated to enroll in the program. MSU Benefits will soon send an e-mail to all benefits-eligible employees providing information about the 2010 smoking cessation program orientation dates.

GEU members can access detailed information about the program via the Web at:  http://health4u.msu.edu/msuchantix.htm. This program is being promoted to a variety of MSU audiences, including unit representatives and supervisors.  We are encouraging but not requiring supervisors to allow use of sick leave accruals for program meetings and appointments that may occur during scheduled work shifts. Our office will be happy to work with you on resolving any questions or issues that come up around leave time usage throughout the program.

Participation in the 2010 program is limited, so it is important that interested employees sign up to attend an orientation as soon as possible. (Orientations will be held on January 20 and September 15, 2010.)  To apply to the program, your members or their adult benefits-eligible family members should call 517-353-2596 or send an e-mail to Health4U@msu.edu.

The program combines the medication CHANTIX with medical evaluation and monitoring as well as structured behavioral support. Olin Health Center, the Office of the University Physician-Health4U program and Human Resources have teamed up to offer MSU employees and their adult benefits-eligible family members a chance to enroll in this potentially life changing year-long program at a greatly reduced cost.
