American Federation of Teachers
The American Federation of Teachers, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO, was founded in 1916 and today represents 1.5 million members in more than 3,000 local affiliates nationwide.

Five divisions within the AFT represent the broad spectrum of the AFT’s membership: pre-K through 12th-grade teachers; paraprofessionals and other school-related personnel; higher education faculty and professional staff; federal, state and local government employees; and nurses and other healthcare professionals. In addition, the AFT represents approximately 80,000 early childhood educators and nearly 250,000 retiree members.

AFT Michigan

Is the 35,000 member state federation of the American Federation of Teachers. We represent PreK-12 and ISD teachers and support staff, community college and university faculty, lecturers, administrators and graduate employees, and city and credit union employees.  Our mission is to advance the interests of our members and the institutions in which they work.

To fulfill our mission we work to build strong local unions, are active legislatively, politically and with education policy, offer a comprehensive professional development program, and organize the unorganized to bring the benefits of unionism to others and to enhance our power.

Greater Lansing Labor Council: GEU is part of the Greater Lansing Labor Council (GLLC) and as part of that organization we get to vote. The GLLC meets the first Wednesday of the month (September- May) at 7pm in the AFL-CIO building at 419 S. Washington, Lansing.
